About the Foreign Economic Relations Department
The Foreign Economic Relations Department was established in accordance with the Ministry of Trade Law No. (37) of 2011. It is responsible for developing and implementing Iraq's external economic policies, aimed at enhancing and expanding economic relations with countries around the world, in line with the general economic policies of the state. The department plays a vital role in restoring Iraq to the global economic landscape.
The department is tasked with providing proposals and recommendations regarding foreign economic policies, organizing trade and economic relations with Arab, foreign, and neighboring countries. It also coordinates the activities of commercial attachés in various countries where Iraq has strong economic ties.
Additionally, the department contributes to the preparation and development of economic and technical cooperation agreements, as well as signing memoranda of understanding that align with global economic developments. It also helps organize Iraq' participation in Arab, regional, and international organizations with an economic and trade focus.
The department is responsible for analyzing and preparing economic reports related to bilateral relations and trade exchanges with other countries. Moreover, it manages Iraq’s file for accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), including the preparation of necessary documentation, which supports Iraq's international trade activities.
